Tudor-Saliba
& Bay Machinery Take BART to the Airport
After
a comprehensive test comparing leading brands of foundation equipment,
Tudor Saliba has taken delivery on two of our HPSi model 500 vibratory
hammers and a custom-built, 60 to 80 foot extendible drill mast that
BMC has mounted to Tudor's Komatsu PC650 excavator.
The job entails
driving 55 foot AZ-26 sheet piling in very difficult material. The Komatsu
drill, which is capable of 50,000 ft. lbs. of torque, predrills the
material and is followed by a crawler crane which drives the sheets
to grade with the first model 500 vibro.
A Komatsu PC1000
will then excavate down 35 feet where a tunnel will be constructed and
later buried. A second crane will then use the other HPSi 500 to extract
the sheet piling.
The job is scheduled
for completion in the year 2002. When finished, it will bring Bay Area
Rapid Transit (BART) trains directly to San Francisco's international
airport.
Bay Machinery thanks
Ron Tudor and Chuck Scarrott of Tudor Saliba for their confidence in
us and our equipment. We also thank the crew at HPSi abd BMC's Fred
Zatkoff for making it all happen.
