Two
recent piling jobs put a pair of our hydraulic impact hammers to the
test. Hawaiian Dredging's Pier 15 job installing 16" octagonal bearing
pile, and Mizak Constructors BART station excavation driving AZ-36 sheets
that a competitors mast mounted vibratory failed to drive.
Hawaiian
Dredging's job in Honolulu needed a quite and clean hammer to drive
their concrete pile. Our HPSi model 1250 hydraulic impact hammer fit
the bill with a maximum energy of 50,000 ft.lbs. and 88% efficiency
into the pile. A special quieting package was tested with the hammer
that brought noise levels from 115 dB down to an acceptable 85 dB. Typical
diesel hammer inefficiencies and emissions such as smoke, hot oil, and
exhaust noise were eliminated.
Mizak
Construction's BART station job in South San Francisco entailed driving
extremely heavy sheet piling in difficult material. After attempting
to use a mast mounted vibratory hammer, Mizak called BMC wanting to
try our new line of Dawson sheet drivers. The model 2400 drove the sheets
and saved the job.
